Jeanne,

When I was 9 years old I had a sucession of surgeries, eventually resulting in my having an Ileostomy...which is a permanent Colostomy. I have had a number of other medical problems resulting in all types of abdmonial surgeries also, but my adhesion problems start in a small way way back then.

Choosing carefully the foods that may affect you may help the situation and your doctor is right in not wanting to rush into more surgery.
