Cramping

My 15 year old son is suffering from intermittent bouts of cramping in his abdominal area. After the cramps go away, he has diarhea and then later he's ok. He has had an ostomy for the past 14 years due to some complications from a benign tumor in his buttocks. He originally had a transvers colostomy and then 2 years ago it was changed to a sigmoid type. He never had the cramping until after his last surgery. He is very athletic; runs cross country, plays soccer and is a weight lifter. We thought it was caused by dehydration but someone at the UOA site wrote to check into "adhesions". Any clues or is this a symptom of adhesions? If so, how do we handle this? Thank you.
