I have a son with IBD, not IBS it is inflammatory bowel disease! The drs have not said actually yet if it is Crohns which my sister has or ulcerative colitis. But he was diaignosed 4 and half years ago, the GI dr came out after that colonoscopy, and all he said to us was he was a very sick young man, my heart fell. he told us and was was bleeding ALOT, but trying to hide the pain and bleeding for awhile, he was scared he was 19 then, and he told us his colon was 95% ulcerated, and he hoped the meds would help. He put him on Asacol, 2400mgs of it a day, and so far he cannot believe he has not had any flare ups. My sister has colostomy for 4 years and this is hard on me. The GI dr said somday, it will show if it is UC or Crohns. Frim what I understand, if it is UC it stays in the large colon, and if it is crohns I know it spreads, my sister has had MAJOR flare ups over the years. She was in hospital for 4 months one time, on hyperail, and THICK white liquid they put a tube in her neck! I have seen so much with the bowels, I guess that is why I get so scared!! Take care! I know Jason will take Asacal the rest of his life!!
