1.) The FDA has approved the use of Seprafilm for LAPAROTOMY PROCEDURES ONLY!!
2.)Seprafilm has NOT been approved by the FDA to be applied laparoscopically!

||| There are SIX ( 6 ) reasons NOT to have your surgeon apply Seprafilm:
1.) Seprafilm CANNOT be applied laparoscopically!
2.) Seprafilm is brittle ( somewhat like waxed paper ) and very difficult for the surgeon to apply!
3.) Any moisture on Seprafilm makes it very sticky for the surgeon to use ( it sticks to the surgeon's gloves ) making it VERY DIFFICULT for the surgeon to apply!
4.) ANY BLOOD or other FOREIGN MATERIAL left in the abdominal/pelvic cavity will NOT ONLY cause infection and inflammation; BUT ALSO will cause MORE adhesions to form; AND the application of Seprafilm will create a breeding ground for MORE adhesions to form!! When these conditions are present, the use of Seprafilm WILL NOT be effective!!
5.) The way each person's body accepts a foreign substance or adhesion barrier IS DIFFERENT!! Some people are ALLERGIC to many things: including the current adhesion barriers: Seprafilm, Interceed, and Intergel gel adhesion barrier. I know of one person, who is allergic to ALL THREE adhesion barriers!!!
6.) THE BEST SURGEONS have made a decision to NOT USE any adhesion barrier -- for all of the above reasons!!!!!!!

||| There is ONLY ONE ( 1 ) reason to use Seprafilm:
1.) ONLY IF the surgeon is VERY METICULOUS in his/her clean-up at the conclusion of the surgery, Seprafilm CAN BE effective in laparotomy procedures
There are far TOO MANY SURGEONS, who do A SLOPPY CLEAN-UP JOB at the conclusion of the surgery:; which MAY SAVE TIME for the surgeon; BUT creates an environment that WILL CAUSE MORE ADHESIONS for the patient !!!!!!!!!!!!!
