INTERNATIONAL PELVIC PAIN SOCIETY ( IPPS )

Professionals Engaged In Pain Management For Women.

In 1995 a group of physicians met to discuss their common interest in treating one of the most difficult of clinical problems, chronic pelvic pain. From the beginning, gynecologist, urologist, psychologist and other health professionals have been committed to an interdisciplinary approach to the treatment of chronic pelvic pain. After two years, the International Pelvic Pain Society (IPPS) was incorporated to serve as a forum for professional and public education.

Chronic pelvic pain affects millions of women. Their inability to fulfill roles of mother, wife, or career brings them to seek medical help. Many will not respond to conventional medical or surgical treatment. Special skill in physical examination and history taking is necessary to uncover all sources of the patient's pain. New surgical and medical therapies are available which may offer hope for these long-suffering women.
