I'M BACK !!!

Hi everyone,

I haven't posted for a long time because I've spent most of my time since my surgery on 6/29/00 in one hospital or another. It's a terribly long story, but I'll try to keep it short.

Dr. Cook tried to do a laparoscopy, but had to do open surgery, a laparotomy, to lyse my adhesions. Unfortunately, they found an internal fistula (from one part of the small bowel to another part). I say unfortunately because he called in a general surgeon to cut out the fistula and re-attach the ends & that suture line leaked. I had 2 more laparotomies in New Orleans + a procedure to drain the abscess vaginally.

You may wonder why the general surgeon didn't realize that the bowel was leaking where she had cut it & sewed it back together. So do I.

I was at the Omega Institute from 6/29 thru 8/14. I flew back to Chicago & went directly to Elmhurst Hospital where I was under the care of my dear Dr. McKenna, a GI specialist. I had more hospital stays & more procedures to try to let the small bowel heal itself. It hasn't.

Dr. McKenna sent me to another GI @ Rush-Pres-St.Luke's, who had his favorite radiologist do more X-rays. She found surprise, surprise, that the small bowel was leaking at the suture line & (with the aid of barium) that my intestines are perfectly healthy. So, starting next Friday, I'm going to be giving myself injections & consuming a liquid diet for 3-4 weeks. If this doesn't heal the leak, it will mean more surgery.

Dr. Keshavarzian (the GI) knows a surgeon at Rush who can do a proper job. I hope.

Love to all, I really missed you.
