new here - worried about adhesions

doc thinks I have adhesions. I had a hysterectomy 2 1/2 yrs ago. Problems started then. Pain in lower right quadrant of stomach. Doc wrote it off as irritable bowel until it got worse. Had a barium enema and an attempt at a colonoscopy. Gastro doc couldn't even get around the first bend in the colon due to my pain (I was heavily sedated). Because the barium enema was normal, he feels I have adhesions attached to the bowels. Here's my questions: The pain is always there only it is tolerable most of the time without any medication. Sometimes it is so bad I feel I need to go to the emergency room. I can't sit or lay down. Pain medicine doesn't even touch it then. Can this be adhesions? I don't understand why it hurts this severe only some of the time. I don't have diahrrea or constipation. I watch my diet carefully and get my exercise. Also, can adhesions continue to grow or get worse? Thanks for your help -- sorry this is so long.
