I think that the more pain you have, means your surgeon didn't take his/her time to get all the gas out. After my four abdominal surgeries, I only had serious pain once and even then it only lasted a day. The other ones, I had either no or other some mild/brief pain. I don't know if it's possible to get all the gas out, but if a doctor makes the effort, it can make a big difference.
