Recovering from adhesion surgery

I don't know if this is normal recovery from surgery or if there is a problem. My surgeon didn't seem too concerned, but I saw him only after two week from my surgery. I orginally had an intestinal resectioning in April 1999. I developed adhesions, had chronic pain and diarrhea. I underwent a laparotomy on 6/26 to remove the adhesions. The surgeon said everything went well and that my bowels were unobstructed.

When does the pain stop? It is almost three weeks and I still need pain medication. Also the diarrhea has not stopped (no worse, no better) and now I am suffering from bouts of nausea. That is not normal for me. I have had several attacks of dry heaves and one incident of vomiting. My surgeon says it is just my body reacting to the surgery and not to worry about it. Is this true?

Helen, thank you for taking the time to answer my personal e-mails. And thank you to all of you who take the time to post information. It is very helpful. I keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.
